Passport America rate. The pool, cafe and game room are only open on the weekend. Wi-Fi cost $5 for two days and is only good for one computer. If you have a second computer, then you have to pay another $5 ($3 for one day). Wi-Fi charges are not noted in the Passport guide. We were in section C and sites are packed in tightly. This campground is only good for an overnight stay at the Passport rate. The $40 per day normal rate is way too high. We will not be making a repeat appearance at this campground.
This is a nice park with lots of trees. When you call, make sure to give them the size of your rig as they only have a few that will accommodate big rigs. There are a few trees you need to watch for, but we were able to get pass them. There are some mountain trails and a trail that goes around the lake. The pool looked clean but closes after Labor Day. It's very quiet and peaceful. Lexington is about 12 miles and there is a lot to see there. Make sure you get the visitor's guide.
Passport America rate. This campground is between two interstates: I-40 and I-240 so you listen to traffic noise all night long. If you need a place to stop overnight, then this place is ok and then only at a discounted rate.
This was a very nice park, but we thought the price of $25 for Friday and Saturday night was excessive for only having electric. Sunday through Thursday was $17 per night. There was also a $7 entrance fee for non-residents. Indiana residents paid a lower fee.
This would be a nice park if it wasn't across the street from a rock quarry that starts work at 7AM. It generated a lot of noise and dust. Also, the park is located on State Road 627, which is a cut through between Richmond and Winchester, KY. There were a lot of semi's using this road with Jake Brakes on. This was at all hours of the day or night. We spent 4 nights at this park because we didn't know about the above. We wouldn't stay at this park again.
Even though this park is run by the county, it is located on Ft. Pickett and used mostly by long term military personnel stationed there. There are very few sites available for temporary campers. They are various sizes and not level. There are showers and restrooms available in one of the old barracks, with a port-a-potty located in the campground. There is also an old playground that hasn't been maintained. We stayed here for 2 weeks so we could visit our daughter who works on Ft. Pickett and lives nearby. There were no other campgrounds within 50 miles that could accommodate our 35' fifth wheel.
This is an excellent campground and we are looking forward to making a return visit. We were able to use our Passport America rate for the 17 nights that we were there. The owners, Larry and Geri, were very friendly and did whatever was needed to make our stay enjoyable. FYI -- the campground is separate from the horse camp.
